Shannon’s Story

Shannon was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in July 2002 when she was two years old. During her four and a half year struggle with childhood cancer, she endured multiple rounds of chemotherapy, two bone marrow transplants, treatment for chronic graft versus host disease of the skin and liver, and many medical procedures. Even though her journey did not end the way we all hoped, her life taught many who knew her valuable lessons. Shannon had an incredible spirit, full of a zest for living and strength of character. She had an ability to find the best in life no matter what her circumstances were. Shannon inspired us all to live our lives to the fullest, to make the most of each day we are given.

Despite all the obstacles in Shannon’s way, nothing kept her from having fun and loving her family and friends with all of her heart. She played every day of her life, full of smiles, laughter, and love for all she met. Shannon was passionate about Scooby Doo and attending Kindergarten at Lakeshore Elementary School. She also enjoyed camping, boating, and fishing with her family. Her favorite times playing were spent with her best friend Emily, brother Jimmy, sister Samantha, and black lab Buddy.

Our beautiful angel Shannon passed away at home on February 19th, 2007, in her mom’s loving arms, and surrounded by her family. If Shannon could add her own thoughts to this story, she would say “Please don’t cry for me. I’m in a better place, running and playing… I’ll see you again someday.”
